Robert B. Somerville provides a comprehensive and fully integrated range of infrastructure services across Canada. We plan, build and maintain oil and gas pipelines, power and other utilities systems and related facilities. Renewable and sustainable energy projects are an important and growing part of our business.
Our clients include many of Canada's major utilities and municipalities. We often work in partnership with other infrastructure builders and in extended enterprise mode with our clients. In all areas, Somerville is recognized as safe, expert, reliable, innovative and fair.

Our History
1929 - Robert Somerville began his career in the pipeline industry as time-checker on a crude oil line in central Michigan for the Pure Oil Company
1940 - Somerville Construction Company was founded as a full scale pipeline construction organization, building pipelines, compressor stations, propane plants and other facilities for utility companies and oil producers
1952 - Robert B. Somerville Co., Ltd. was formed to work in Canada
1989 - First directional drill was purchased, making Somerville one of the first to use the technology
1992 - Utility Division established. Pre-qualified to work on Toronto Hydro and Bell Canada, and Toronto District Heating Corp (Enwave) contracts later in the year
1994 - Established Head Office in King City, Ontario
1996 - Established our Mainline Division
1996 - Utility division installs services in Air Canada Centre, and Terminal 3 at Pearson Airport
1999 - Expanded our Pipeline Division to the East Coast
2003 - First renewable project completed
2005 - Established our Western Pipeline Division
2006 - Established Entera to undertake the Toronto Hydro General Contract
2011 - Established our Western Utility Division
2011 - Awarded first solar farm installation in Sault Ste. Marie
2016 - Expanded to Watermain relining
2016 - Purchased our first 1M lb. drill
2021 - Awarded multiyear infrastructure project for Toronto Hydro through BTFA as JV with Black& McDonald
